Travel the Via Verde of the Costa dei Trabocchi: Grotta del Saraceno rents you the BIKE...

The Via Verde: the cycling and pedestrian path of the Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo.

Along the Costa dei Trabocchi stretches the Via Verde: a cycling route over 50 km long that runs through the entire enchanting Adriatic coastline of Abruzzo.

Just a few kilometers from the Grotta del Saraceno, along the Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, one of the most successful examples of sustainable mobility and land recovery is developed: the Via Verde, a cycling and pedestrian path that will take you on a journey to discover the green region of Europe.

Built on the site of the former Adriatic regional railway line, which was abandoned to adapt to the modern Adriatic railway network, the path starts in Ortona and culminates in San Salvo Marina.

50 flat kilometers of pure relaxation and connection with the wild nature of the Costa dei Trabocchi. Needless to say… the landscape makes this cycling path truly unique.

The Adriatic Cycle Path, the Via Verde

Noted in sports history for having hosted the start of the 2023 Giro d’Italia, the Via Verde of Abruzzo is considered by cycling enthusiasts a unique destination for sustainable mobility.

Immersed in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Adriatic Coast, the Via Verde starts from Ortona, home to the majestic Aragonese Castle, which rises on the Ortona promontory overlooking the sea and, in the past, served to defend the area from Saracen Pirate attacks.

Because the Via Verde is also a story told through ancient tales, oral traditions, and a nature that remains pristine and wild.

After passing the Port of Ortona, the cycling path begins its journey along the sea. You’ll pass streams, Trabocchi—the famous fishing machines on the sea—small coves, and beaches with fine golden sand and pebbles smoothed by the sea. These beaches and coves remain pristine and waiting to be discovered by the most adventurous spirits.
